Creating original content on the web is one of the best ways to build your personal brand. Unfortunately, many of my clients would rather have a root canal than take the time to write. This system is makes it easy to write an attention getting blog post or article.

  1. What to write about? Choose a topic you are passionate about and that interests your target audience. “How-to” articles and blog posts are some of the most read, linked to and bookmarked content on the web.
  2. Choose an attention grabbing title: The first thing people see is your title. Use this to draw them in so they will read your article. Be creative. For this blog posting I could have used “Five Article Writing Tips” or what I chose “Five Super Easy Steps for Writing Attention Getting Articles.”
  3. Start by asking questions: Write down 3-5 questions about what you want to write about. Use these questions to form the framework of your article. It is much easier to write down answers to questions than to just write about your topic. Flesh out your article by answering these questions.
  4. Teach, don’t sell: Articles and blogs work best if you educate and don’t try and sell. People will ignore advertisements, but will seek out helpful information. Use your writing to build rapport and brand yourself as the expert. Put your contact info in the resource box at the end of the article.
  5. Format for scanning: Use bold sub headings, bullet points or numbered lists. This allows readers to easily scan your article to see what it is about. If it looks interesting, they will settle back and read everything you wrote.

Article writing and business blogging are excellent long-term strategies to build your credibility as an expert, drive traffic, and build a relationship of trust with your clients and prospects.
