Market Your Website Like Your Business

Website marketing needs to follow the basics of business marketing.  Businesses have forgotten to apply the basics or they are in such a rush to have a website, they forget to use their marketing plan.

  1. Business Plan: Starting up a new business venture? Any investor would require a business plan. Why? Because you are much more likely to have a successful business if you start with a well thought out plan. It’s no different with a website.
  2. Image: Customers are more likely to enter a real-world store if the building looks nice and the entrance is inviting. The same applies to your website. Your appearance of your website can build trust or it can build apprehension.
  3. Navigation: In a restaurant, customers wait to be taken to their table and find what they want on the menu or wait to hear the special from their waiter. Your website should be intuitive with menus and it should be clear and tell what the next step should be.
  4. Location, Location, Location: Stores need to be located in a busy area where there is a lot people walking or driving. You need signs so you can be seen. The same is true for your website. Lack of traffic is the number one source of website failure.
  5. It’s about the customer: Many businesses are solely to build the ego of the owner. This happens all too often in the restaurant and bar industry. These businesses almost always fail. The same is true with a website. Successful websites solve problems for a customer; they don’t focus on how great the website owner is.
