If you lined up all your website visitors end to end, they still wouldn’t reach a decision… ever feel that way? It’s no accident that some websites have a much higher conversion rate. You have to encourage action.

The objective for any website is to get your visitor to take action. You work hard to bring visitors to your website. But most will leave if you don’t plan specific actions for them to take.

When someone arrives to your website, there needs to be a clear path to action. This needs to be visible on the home page and able to be seen in the first few seconds of arrival. Place your offer above the fold so that it is clearly visible.

The words you choose will help trigger action. Use words like “make”, “do”, “write”, “take”, and “build.” When searching for answers, people like to be told “what to do”… So tell them.

Every time you write new web content, there should be some call to action at the end of the topic. The idea is to involve the reader emotionally and to encourage action.

Make the action clear in the headlines, the navigation and in the organization of the website. The organization and flow should follow your natural selling process. Make these actions clear and precise.

Web page layout is important. Complex pages will confuse your visitor. Look at Google’s search page. Google uses an super simple design with One search box; one search button. You just type in what you want to search for… and go.

Tip: Focus first on getting your website visitor to take action, then worry about building up your traffic. Think conversion first.
