Your website needs a call to action. This is the central purpose for your website. It should be in the center of the page, above the fold and preferably in a different color so it stands out. This is the action you want a visitor to take and it should be clear from the instant that they arrive.

Website visitors take just a few short seconds to decide if they want to stay and investigate a website or leave and try a different website. A clear call to action helps make this decision. People are much more likely to follow the path you want if you make it obvious for them. This is an important element in business website design.

If your website is designed to generate leads, then the form should be on your home page. If your website is designed to sell product, then your visitor should see products and be able to start shopping the instant they arrive to your website.

In planning your website, establish the three most important things people can do. Choose one of these to be your primary call to action. The other two are your secondary actions. Your primary action should be clearly visible as soon as a visitor arrives.

Call to Actions

  1. eCommerce: Buy Now
  2. Lead Generation: Get a Quote Now
  3. Informational Website: Call Now for more information

Developing your call to action is one of the first steps in planning your website. The call to action should be clear in the headlines, the navigation and in the organization of the website. A clear call to action gets results.
