If you build it, he might come

When you started your business, it involved many aspects of planning. Any good business took the time to thoroughly research the industry, audience and competitive landscape before investing money and time into the business venture.

If you have a website today or want one, you must treat it like your store front to the world. You must evaluate the marketing aspects with as much energy as it took to get the business off the ground in the first place. Anybody can have a website these days, but it takes planning and persistence to capitalize on the internet consumer. Those who plan for today and tomorrow will reap the benefits of consistent online profits.

Having said all this, the first thing to be considered before building a website is the search engine marketing or optimization process (SEO). This research will guide your design, functionality and growth of the website. Knowing your audience is the key to any good design and website surfing experience.

Today’s internet consumer is very savvy. They know what they want and if they don’t know what they want they will go online to find it, because the world is their playground and they make the rules. It’s a beautiful world for the online consumer because they have complete control over the process. If they get the impression at any point in time that they are not sure they want to go through with the process, they abandon the process, with a click of the mouse.

How many times have you gone to the check out counter in a retail establishment and when the employee said, that will be $28.32, you say, “You know what I have changed my mind, no thanks” and then just walked out of the store without another thought? It just doesn’t happen that way, but it does on the net!

The point I am trying to make her is simple. If you know what your potential audience wants from you, you can build the field and they will come! But, if you don’t know what kind of field they are looking for in the first place, well then you can still build, but know they might not find you and if they happen to stumble on the field, they will leave quickly if it is not to their liking.

So, know what they want, build it for them and then they WILL come!
