A great website design has curb appeal. When you first arrive it is pleasing in appearance and inviting to enter. For homes, a prospective buyer makes up their mind in the first 30 seconds whether they are interested or not. But for website visitors, this happens in the first 2-3 seconds.
What makes for a great website design?
- Fast loading. Slow loading websites lose visitors before they arrive.
- Upon arriving, the visitor instantly understands what the website is about.
- Design is consistent with company and industry image. An attorney website should be professional, an amusement park should be fun, etc.
- The overall design including graphics, fonts and colors should blend together harmoniously.
- Organize content into blocks with headlines similar to a newspaper.
- Navigation should be simple and intuitive.
- If you are selling products, place photos of your products and a buy now button on the home page.
- Interesting content with the correct keyword phrases to attract interested visitors.
Just like selling a home, great curb appeal will bring visitors into your website
